My father-in-law and I went to see a local screening of 9/11: Reclaiming Ground Zero, hosted by Carolyn Lukensmeyer, who also did a presentation and Q&A at the end (in person, not in the film). Worth watching if you get the chance. I will say, though, that the Q&A at the end was worth more. The film is one part remembering 9/11, 3 parts praise for “democracy,” with the power of democracy being its main aim. But what it really shows, to arguable effect, is the power of thoughtful representation within democracy. This came across more clearly and to better effect in Lukensmeyer’s presentation and Q&A after the film. I do recommend the film, and it’s probably one of the best ways we could “remember 9/11.” But, as even Lukensmeyer I think sort of briefly hinted at during the Q&A, the power of the ideas and practices being praised in the film are not done justice by (“you keep using that word”) “democracy.”
